Famicom Disk System (FDS)
Famicom Disk System, also known as FDS, is a peripheral for the Famicom (NES) manufactured by Nintendo and released in February 1986, exclusively in Japan. It allowed games to be played from rewritable floppy disks, offering cheaper game distribution and the ability to save data. Popular titles for the FDS included The Legend of Zelda, Metroid, and Kid Icarus. Around 200 titles were released for the system. Despite its innovation, the FDS was eventually overshadowed by cartridge-based games.
