J2ME

J2ME (Java 2 Micro Edition) is a platform used primarily for mobile games on early mobile phones. Released in 1999, J2ME allowed for games to be played on a variety of devices with limited hardware capabilities. Popular J2ME titles included Snake, Prince of Persia, and Asphalt Urban GT. The platform was highly successful during the early 2000s before being overtaken by smartphone app stores.
